No Worries…      

I do seem to say that a lot!

I have discovered a small flaw in my otherwise very professional business system. I can plan a proper job. I can work out the hours, write the quote, send the invoice and generally behave like someone who knows what she’s doing.  It’s the little jobs that get me.

There always seems to be something.  an email to answer.  A file to check.  Something to resize.  Something to look up.  Something I suddenly decide would be better if I did it another way.

And my response is usually the same:

No worries!

Because really, none of these things are a worry. They’re just part of working for yourself and wanting to do a good job.  The funny thing is how much time all the little things can take without you really noticing.

Ten minutes here. Twenty minutes there. “I’ll just quickly do this…”

Then ten minutes meets another ten minutes. Twenty minutes joins them. Someone invites an email.  And suddenly they’ve formed a small committee. 😂

Actually… maybe there IS a worry.

Not really a worry. More of a “Where on earth did my afternoon go?”

I think that’s the part I’m still learning about working for myself. The obvious work is easy to see. It’s all the little things around it that somehow manage to quietly fill the day.

And because I actually like doing those little things and making sure everything is right, I don’t always notice how much time I’ve spent on them.

So perhaps my latest creative-business lesson is simply to notice all those little bits of time that usually slip under the radar.  It’s simply about becoming a little more aware of where my time actually goes.  Which means, naturally, I now need to find a better way of keeping track of it.

No worries. I’ll just quickly do that… 😂

So… what do YOU do?

If you work for yourself, how do you keep track of all those little things that somehow fill your day?

Do you write everything down? Use an app? Keep a running list? Or are you also occasionally wondering how it became 5pm when you were “just quickly doing something” at 2pm?

 Please tell me I'm not the only one. 😂
